Many clients are excited by the idea of working with a coach, and it is also normal to be a little nervous. Some people worry that the coach will try to change them in ways they don’t want, or that they will not be able to succeed. The intention of coaching is not to fix or change someone, but to create a judgment-free, empowering partnership in which you collaborate to achieve what you want. The agenda always comes from you.


The intake allows the coach to get to know you, to gather information about your strengths, challenges, vision, purpose and values. This is also your opportunity to “design” the coaching relationship and provide feedback on how you learn, grow and are best supported. Intakes generally take an hour and a half to two hours, and can be done in person or over the phone.

The coaching process begins following the intake with sessions that are 40 minutes in length, three times a month, usually done over the phone. Weekly assignments in-between the sessions promote self-awareness and move you forward through specific action. The best results in coaching come from working together over several months. Why? Because significantly changing your direction or adding important, new components to your life takes time to plan and integrate. We recommend a minimum of three month commitment to the coaching process to insure effective, sustainable results. Many of our clients stay with coaching for 6 months or more.
