This type of coaching fills a great need in that people in the recovery process often direct much of their energy towards successfully managing their sobriety but do not necessarily have the great lives that they could. Many traditional recovery and treatment programs give people in recovery important structure to overcome their problem behavior but frequently have the approach of brokenness and the need for “fixing”. Recovery Coaching addresses the specific life needs of recovering addicts, alcoholics and destructive eaters through the assets model of compassionate change.

• Uses coaching techniques to build readiness for change, to enhance change talk, to
increase confidence, motivation and commitment to change
• Uses tools to recognize and manage ambivalence as a natural part of change
• Helps you clarify goals, collaborate to create a change plan and coping strategies
• Effectively supports you in your recovery when you are stuck or experiencing recycling
or relapse

• Recovery coaching assumes that there is innate health and wholeness in people who
seek to improve their life. We use a strength-based approach so that our clients find and
utilize their strengths while we coach them to success.
• Recovery coaches hold the belief that people who are clear about their life goals and
values are better able to achieve and maintain a great life, healthy living and long-term
recovery.
• Recovery coaching helps people in recovery succeed through normal effort. The
foundation of this effort is development of a healthy lifestyle and balanced living.
• Recovery coaching does NOT explain why addictions occur, identify causes or address
past issues and trauma. We are not chemical dependency counselors or licensed
therapists. We cannot diagnose addiction or treat addiction per se. Recovery coaches do
not dictate what recovery will look like for our clients. We do not tell them what to do or
how to do it.
• We DO help people explore their options, wants, choices and needs in respect to their
recovery and help them get clarity and move into action. Recovery coaching recognizes
that it is normal for people who are in recovery to have gaps in their skills and
development and we support our clients in filling in such gaps (i.e. money handling skills,
relationships, etc).
We are a charter member of Recovery Coaches International (RCI) and have completed Recovery Coach Training, an International Coaches Federation accredited course.
